More than 60 years after William Russell and Rex Burch developed the 3R principle (3R = Replacement, Reduction, Refinement of animal experiments), animals are still needed in research. What is being done at UZH to comply with the 3R principle? How are animal experiments regulated in Switzerland? For which research projects at the UZH are animal experiments still indispensable? These and other questions will be explained in three input presentations by the head of the Department of Animal Welfare and 3Rs, a veterinarian and a physician. This Science Café shows why animal experiments are important for humans and animals, how they are conducted responsibly at UZH, and invites the audience to ask questions.
